WORN OUT FROM ANOTHER AYALA CEBU VISIT with no seats to rest

The new Rustan's Supermarket opened today at Ayala Cebu and it had a good blend of items from all over the world in comparison to most of the other generic food stores in Cebu.

But the trip wore me out again with no seats to rest after shopping and waiting for the others to finish. Such a self defeating mall who wants shoppers but they don't want you to linger a second more than necessary in contrast to the USA malls where its a community friendly place to visit and wait.

The few seats still left in Ayala were jam packed today and most of those had uncomfortable no back seating.  I remember the good ole days when benches were even provided outside the mall and lots of them inside to make it a great malling experience for everyone.

It's fine to have a beautiful mall but why not make it comfortable for visitors to wait and extend their shopping experience?

CONTACT PHILIPPINE AYALA CEBU MALL AND ASK THEM TO PROVIDE MORE SEATING WITH BACKS FOR SENIORS AND MAKE THE MALLS A PEOPLE FRIENDLY EXPERIENCE WHERE YOU CAN LINGER AND SHOP IN LEISURE RATHER THAN SHOP AND GET OUT.

LACK OF UNFRIEDLY SEATING FOR ELDERLY

And that's when we realised how some malls can be so user-unfriendly for senior citizens.

It makes good sense - both social and business - to cater to what these folks need.

You have to wonder why MALLS OF THE PHILIPPINES cannot provide seats benches with backs for the elderly.

You wonder if MALLS OF THE PHILIPPINES only  wants a sterile environment unclutted with the elderly or a photo perfect mall with their boxes for seats that their designers wanted or they don't want people in their malls waiting...with no benches with backs for the elderly.  It shows a bad trend of having a sterile mall that looks beautiful but is not people friendly for resting except if go to a restaurant. I think it is a bad trend and shows a lack of needs of people sadly.

For now, my mum has decided to curtail her visits to bigger malls and opt for outings within the neighbourhood.  Older people are largely overlooked in what remains a youth-obsessed consumer marketplace.

In a study on older adults, over two thirds indicated that some malls do not have enough public seating.   Reference:   http://www.open.ac.uk/hsc/__assets/dh4bwtxdy7tqjqvhe2.pdf

Many older adults in the study found unfriendly spaces encourage older people to get what they need to do as quickly as possible and then get home with no lingering at the mall.

They ask why isn't the mall interested in their money?

Most restaurants have seats with backs but the mall mostly has stools as if it is doesn't want the older clients who probably have the most money?

And few stools even.  There are lots of empty spaces where formerly benches used to be provided in the main hall public space on all floors . Picture perfect but no comfort for seniors.

MALLS OF THE PHILIPPINES fails to recognize that many older people have real needs just like the young and seem to be interested in design not comfort and meeting the needs of the elderly in seating in public places.

The resulting sense of alienation leads people to withdraw from the marketplace as they grown older.

I was even amazed at Ayala Makati that they had installed a bunch of old fashioned rocking chairs reserved for the elderly wow so thoughtful. But the rest of the mall has the box seats and my back always ache in pain when sitting on those boxes with no backs.

Why has MALLS OF THE PHILIPPINES become elderly unfriendly by removing all the benches and no sitting spaces in the main hall for people that wait but must stand at the railings while friends finish their shopping?

Parking area:  Why not provide comfortable benches inside the air conditioned areas for customers or drivers to wait like other malls do? It alienates the richest consumers who idle by standing at the doorway in the air conditioning until everyone is ready. Such inconsideration of MALLS OF THE PHILIPPINES designers.

Ayala Cebu has lots of benches in the air conditioned part of their mall in the parking area in the lower levels. Convenient for those in cars waiting the rest of their family and meeting place.

SEATING FOR TIRED SHOPPERS IS LACKING

PHILIPPINE MALLS NEED SEATING WITH BACKS FOR TIRED SHOPPERS AND ELDERLY!

Atrium seating for "tired shoppers" at Southlake Mall in Merrillville, Ind. featured live trees, fountains and modern art in 1976. The mall opened in 1973.

The mall of most American malls are places to take the family and relax while the family shops and gets entertained but in the MALLS IN THE PHILIPPINES they have made it fairly hard to find seats with backs anymore for comfortable sitting while waiting in public areas.

MALLS IN THE PHILIPPINES owners AND DESIGNERS should take note of the elderly and shoppers by bringing back the comfortable seats with backs like most other malls provide for example Ayala provide extensive seating with backs for comfort rather than the uncomfortable box seats MALLS IN THE PHILIPPINES ARE now installing. M

MALLS IN THE PHILIPPINES HAVE ELIMINATED MOST PUBLIC SEATING AND PUT THE INSTEAD THE VERY UNCOMFORTABLE BOX SEATS LIKE BELOW.  AND MAKE MORE SEATS AVAILABLE FOR RELAXING AND ENJOYING THE MALL EXPERIENCE!

The designers MALLS IN THE PHILIPPINES are getting carried away with seating boxes with no backs and yes they look beautiful but for the elderly its very uncomfortable!!!

MOST MALLS OFFER COMFORT TO THEIR SHOPPERS WITH FULL BENCHES WITH BACKS IN OTHER COUNTRIES

TAKE A LOOK AT THE TYPES OF SEATS FOUND AT OTHER MALLS CLICK THE LINK ABOVE AND WHY NOT MAKE SM MALLS WORLD CLASS TOO FOR SHOPPERS TO LINGER A WHILE AND SAVOR THE EXPERIENCE?

Philippine Ayala Land to build biggest mall in Mindanao for P4.5B in CDO

Via Business Mirror Wednesday, 13 January 2010  CAGAYAN de Oro City—Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) is set to invest at least P4.5 billion here to build the biggest mall in Mindanao, thereby boosting investor confidence in this capital city of Northern Mindanao.

Constantino Jaraula, city mayor here, said that ALI will build the P4.5-billion shopping and recreation mall in its newly acquired property in the heart of this city’s bustling business district this year.
“Once completed, this Ayala mall would make the city the major shopping destination in Mindanao as this will be the biggest mall in the region and will further boost our beloved city as a haven for investment,” Jaraula said.

Take mobile e-commerce seriously

From the Cebu Sunstar:  The growth of peer-to-peer or person-to-person trading sites like Sulit.com.ph, AyosDito.ph, 88db.com.ph, OLX.com.ph, Multiply.com, eBay.ph, among others, has allowed Filipinos from all the country to trade with each other. As you can scan through the various payment options, Globe GCash and Smart Money are in majority of these seller pages.

Anyone who has not looked into these two payment platforms in the past should think again. With mobile broadband becoming affordable and a growing number of Pinoys surfing through the mobile phone, there is a new opportunity to market and position the selling of product or service focusing on this growing user segment.

Globe GCash Glick (https:/ gcashclick.delbrosonline.net/), in partnership with courier company Delbros, now allows online sellers and buyers to trade with each other with ease. The system ensures buyers and sellers that a product ordered is received in good condition and in accordance with what was indicated online. In addition, payment is already secured prior to shipment, allowing proper transfer of funds after the delivery process.  Continue reading here http://www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/toral-take-mobile-e-commerce-seriously

Business trend slowly shifts to online selling

My comment:  But major players like SM, Ayala, Metro, Robinsons, Island Souvenirs, CDR King and many others haven't seen the light yet in my opinion and missing a major business low cost opportunity

China's online sales soar in Jan-Sept: govt (wonder why no news like this in Philippines?)

Philippine Star CEBU, Philippines - Despite lots of business spaces now made available around the city, the advent of the internet has made online selling now the fast growing trend in the business community.

This is due to the free advertising and no need to pay for space rentals said Tina Tan, an online business seller who sells ready-to-wear clothes and accessories through the web.

Tan said that doing business online has become very popular and since the budding of social networking sites, it makes their jobs easier and gives them a chance to have a wider market.
According to Tan, business through online is very easy especially for those that have other things to do like students like her.

She said that all they have to do is add as many contacts as they can, preferably people they know so that they would not be scammed, and immediately they have instant customers.

Val Carla Vergara, a new online business player, said that she shifted to online selling because it is a new strategy for small business players like her who wants extra income but does not need to invest on a huge capital.

Vergara said that there are so many small business players that are using the net right now for their businesses but the competition does not worry her despite having the same kinds of products like RTW’s, accessories, and toys.

She said that just like any other kind of business, it depends on the marketing strategy of the online shop owner.

Vergara explained that she sells her products cheaper than those sold in malls and she puts the difference of the prices in her site so that the customers would be able to see how much money they will be saving if they buy it from her.

She said that unlike stores in malls and also from other online entrepreneurs who has fixed prices, she lowers her prices if the customers ask for a discount and she also does this if her clients buy three or more products.

But according to some like Armida Aguilar, a college student, the pictures are not enough for her to buy a product online. Aguilar said that despite online selling becoming a fad today and saves the shoppers time from going around places looking for clothes, she still chooses to go the conventional way pf shopping because she wants to make sure that she the quality is worth the money she is paying.  Continue reading here http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=530097&publicationSubCategoryId=108

Online Retail Thriving: 8% Growth Expected This Holiday Season but are Philippine merchants taking note?

From the NY Times In its State Of Retailing Online 2009 report, Forrester Research reported that the vast majority of Web retailers were not only profitable in 2008 - in a recession - but also that their overall level of profitability grew.

My commment;  But has Philippine merchants noticed the trend and are they adapting to sell worldwide?  Here is a area for growth and expansion and Filipino merchants need to take note.

The e-commerce market is expanding, due to a combination of factors.

Also brick-and-mortar businesses are migrating more of their operations online. We also have technology advances to thank: better recommendations technology, social media, the emergence of mobile commerce.

E-commerce Continues to Grow, Despite Economy

In the State Of Retailing Online 2009 report, Forrester Research reported that retailers saw their Web divisions grow by 18% in 2008. Given that Forrester described 2008 as "one of the worst years ever" in retail, that's significant growth in online retail activity.
